Pro Golf TipsFix a Hook: "The Reverse Gate Drill"
 Problem:
This golfer has the opposite problem as the slicer. The hook is caused by the player swinging too far from the "inside" and imparting excessive hook spin.
Drill Setup:
The setup should be reversed from the previous drill. This time the ball closer to the target should be placed just outside the target line. The second ball is placed about 4 inches to the inside of the target line bout two feet back.
Drilling Procedure:
The gate that you have established will promote a neutral swing path that is not too far from the inside. The feeling will be that the club is swing much more to the left, however the ball will hook less. In Jim McLean's book, the "8 Step Swing", he explains this in great detail in the section entitled "Swing left to swing right". The more the club swings left after impact, the less the ball will go in that direction. This is probably the single most important concept to understand for anyone who battles a hook.
